If you’ve ever been to Hong Kong, chances are you’ve seen or even tasted one of their more popular street foods, the eggette.
These spherical waffles have now found their way to the Philippines via Egg-It (a play on the word “eggette”) Hong Kong Style Waffles, a hole-in-the-wall diner at Sta. Rosa St. corner San Roque St., Kapitolyo, Pasig.
At Egg-It, they’ve adopted the popular Chinese snack to Filipino taste, incorporating sweet or savory elements to the waffles, which are usually eaten plain in Hong Kong.
This is my order of Black Pepper Spam with Cheese Waffle – the savory spam plays well against the subtly sweet waffle and the rich creaminess of the cheese. Every bite ends with a hint of heat from the black pepper present in the Spam. They have several sweet flavors like Reese’s, cookies and cream, etc. But, so far, this is their only savory variant, although they told me that they will be adding more in the future.
